A THRIVING METROPOLIS :
A city which reflects the real spirit of Arabia as it is a perfect medley between age old tradition and sophisticated modernity. As the capital of the U.A.E., it is the largest of the Emirates covering 85% of its land mass and producing 90% of the oil of this country as well as 10% of the entire world. It also produces 5% of its gas reserves. All the revenues collected have been invested back in to the nation making it rich in every sense of the word. The Emirati have thus been blessed with a fabulous lifestyle with all possible amenities, while also striving to preserve the natural beauty of the land amidst sand dunes on one hand and lush greenery on the other.
In the middle of the 18th century, the British navy emerged in the Gulf around the same time as two Arabian tribes called the Qawasims and the Baniyas. The Qawasims have taken over Sharjah and Ras–Al Khaimah while the descendents of the Baniyas rule Abu Dhabi and Dubai even today. Over the years this land has seen great changes in fortune and on December 2nd, 1971, Abu Dhabi became the capital of the U.A.E., and one of the most favoured business centres and tourist attractions of the world.
